Luxury cabinetmaking in Marbella: the story behind AlexVan
Behind every piece of furniture is a story, and mine began very early. What is now luxury cabinetmaking in Marbella began with a twelve-year-old boy at a carpentry school in Córdoba, Argentina, who has never stopped learning the trade. My name is Alejandro Ontivero, and this is my signature.
From Córdoba to Toronto, and from Toronto to Mijas
Six years of training in Argentina, a lacquering course in Brazil, five years in Toronto specialising in assembly and structural work, then back to Argentina to set up my workshop. My teachers were Spanish and Italian, and they shaped my direction: I wanted to make luxury furniture in Europe.
AlexVan was founded in 2021
I crossed the pond and settled in Mijas to do the one thing I’d been preparing for over thirty years: bespoke furniture for villas on the Costa del Sol. Today, there are six of us, and we make everything in our workshop, without subcontracting any of the furniture work.

The team behind every project
Daniel handles production and CNC; Franco and Miguel take care of woodworking and installation; Iván handles the finishing; and Vanina manages administration and customer service. Every piece of furniture passes through everyone’s hands.
How I approach my craft
I work with precision and honesty: fine woods, European oak, walnut and ash, lacquers I bring in from Italy, and the latest CNC machinery. I also take on the jobs other carpenters don’t want to tackle: designer furniture, curved pieces, mouldings and brass inlays. That’s where you can see the difference.

Where we are
From the workshop in Mijas, I work throughout Málaga province: Marbella, Sotogrande, Benahavís, Estepona and the rest of the Costa del Sol. I visit to see the project myself, and I deliver it myself.

Who’s behind AlexVan?

Is the furniture made in-house?
